Subject: Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation launches Macy Faculty Scholars Program

December 8, 2010

Dear Colleague,

The Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation is pleased to announce a new funding initiative to develop the next generation of national leaders in medical and nursing education: the Macy Faculty Scholars Program http://macyfoundation.org/macy-scholars .

The program is designed to nurture the careers of educational innovators in medicine and nursing, and drive innovation in health professions education so that it better meets the health needs of the public. Up to five scholars will be selected each year to lead educational reform at their home institutions. They will receive salary support at $100,000 per year over two years and be provided with opportunities for further career development through mentoring and access to a national advisory committee.

This is an extremely exciting time for us. The Macy Foundation has supported programs to improve health professions education for several decades, but the urgency for needed health professional education reforms, as well as the difficulty that faculty leaders have carving out time to focus on making those reforms, has motivated us to expand our efforts and create this new faculty scholars program.

More information about the Macy Faculty Scholars program is available on our website<http://macyfoundation.org/macy-scholars> . There, you will find details about the selection criteria and process, as well as instructions on how to apply to the program.

Sincerely,
George E. Thibault, MD
President
